July 4, 1776 was the day that white America supposedly declared its independence from Great Britain. The reason I say "white America" is simply because slaves were not set free until 1865, and the reason I say "supposedly" is because America is technically still a British Crown Colony.
The final Peace Treaty was signed in 1783 in Paris, France. Even though slaves helped fight in the Revolutionary War, slaves were obviously still "property" of others for 82 more years.
Frederick Douglass, a fugitive slave, gave a speech on July 5, 1852, titled "What to the slave is the 4th of July?" In this speech Douglass said...
"What to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety and hypocrisy - a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour."
The United State's "independence" from England meant nothing for slaves because the buying and selling of slaves was not prohibited in the newly written Constitution.
Fast forward to present day, July 4, 2013. The United States is in distress, an American flag can actually be flown upside down to indicate that. While few rights are still being respected, various constitutional rights are being violated... here are some examples.
The 1st Amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. VIOLATION: The government is arresting people for speaking out, violently disrupting peaceful assemblies that attempt to petition the government for redress.
The 2nd Amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. VIOLATION: Gun control and gun rights advocates obviously have very different views about whether guns are a force for violence or for good.
The 3rd Amendment states: No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. NO VIOLATION: This right is still being respected.
The 4th Amendment states: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. VIOLATION: The government is flying drones over the United States to spy on the American citizens.
The 5th Amendment states: No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. VIOLATION: The American government has shredded the 5th Amendment by subjecting the American citizens to indefinite detention and taking away their due process rights. The government claims the right to assassinate or indefinitely detain any American citizen or U.S. citizen without due process.
The 6th Amendment states: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense. VIOLATION: Defendants are disposed of without receiving a trial and without ever hearing the charges against them. The government prosecutes cases based upon "secret evidence" that they don’t show the defendant, sometimes the judge hearing the case. The government uses “secret evidence” to spy on Americans, prosecute soldiers on "leaking" or "terrorism charges" and assassinate U.S. citizens.
The 7th Amendment states: In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law. NO VIOLATION: This right is still being respected.
The 8th Amendment states: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. VIOLATION: Indefinite detention and assassination are cruel and unusual punishment. The widespread system of torture carried over the last decade with the assistance of other countries violates the 8th Amendment.
The 9th Amendment states: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. VIOLATION: Our inherent rights as human beings are the right to a level playing field, and access to safe food and water.
The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. VIOLATION: Two of the central principles of America’s Founding Fathers are: The government is created and empowered with the consent of the people and Separation of powers. Today the government is threatening rather than protecting freedom and that it is no longer acting with the “consent of the governed”.
Why do American citizens not care that their rights are being violated? Why do they continuously 'celebrate' and act as if everything is okay?
You want to tell me we're living in a community? Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America is not a country. It's just a business, and still a British Crown Colony, so what exactly are you celebrating?
